Chairmans Annual Report May 2008

“We started the year off with a new clerk, who said at interview that he would like to change a few things. I believe he has, and I do not intend to list the things that have changed so far during his clerkship. I would like to thank the clerk for his work to date.

I would like to also thank the clerk and Mrs. Sue Tomlinson for running a tight ship on council’s behalf. A big thanks to the ground staff for making Whetstone such a pleasant place to live. Also to thank our village litter picker for keeping our streets clean. It must be soul destroying to see all the litter, rubbish and bottles left from the Friday and Saturday night’s activities. I would like to thank our cleaner for the great work he does. My Vice Chairman, Mr. Michael Bounds has stood in for me on various occasions, not least the senior citizens Christmas party where you still bring your own knife and fork. Many thanks to you for the help and support over the last year.

So what has been achieved during my year as Chairman? We are not going ahead with the pavilion, we still have no dedicated police officer for the village, and we still have heavy traffic problems on Grove Road. We still have ASB on High Street, Brook Street and Wychwood Road, and we still have no allotment.

So what have we done well? We all give out time freely, unpaid, and attend meeting after meeting, write letters, meet groups of residents, the district and county council, the police and other organisations all for the benefit of the village and its parishioners and their continued provision and well being.

The list goes on and so must we. We can achieve all of our goals in time with the dedication and skills of our staff, and as councillors, your continuing support for all that we are doing. Thank you.”
